General
What is the Prediction Game? A game type that lets members of a reward program predict the score of upcoming football matches. For each match, a member enters the score they think both teams will get. Depending on how the game is set up, they can earn points for guessing the exact score, for correctly picking the winner (without the exact score), or simply for playing and getting it wrong.
What sports does it support? Football only, today, but we have possibilities to add other sports such as Rugby, Ice Hockey, Basketball. It is not restricted to the major leagues, since it can be used in second leagues in major countries.
Who can play it? Only members of a reward program. The Prediction Game is not a standalone game — it can only be added inside a reward program, and every prediction a user submits requires a valid reward-program login. There's no anonymous or guest way to play.
Can a game combine several sports or several competitions of different sports? No — one Prediction Game instance covers football matches from one competition, one club's season, or one league where each member follows the club they pick (see next section).
Setting up a Prediction Game
How do I configure a Prediction Game? In the game editor, you choose one of three modes:
- By league — predict every match of a single competition (e.g. "predict the World Cup," "predict the Champions League group stage"). You pick the competition and the season.
- By club — predict a club's matches across its whole season, combining all the competitions that club plays in (e.g. league + domestic cup + a European competition). You pick the club, the season, and which of its competitions to include.
- Pick your team — each member picks the club they support in one league, then predicts only that club's matches. You pick the league, the clubs members can choose from (all or a selection), and how many times per season members can change team.
In By league mode, you can also narrow the game to one team's matches. When the game follows one team or club, Fixtures to display keeps all fixtures, or only home or away ones. This option isn't available in Pick your team mode.
How many competitions can I combine in a "By club" game? At least one, with a soft warning past six. There's no hard cap enforced beyond that.
Can I run more than one Prediction Game at the same time? Yes — for example, a World Cup competition game and a club season game could run in parallel, in different prediction games but in the same reward program.
Can I change a game's mode after it's published? No — the mode is locked in once the game is published.
What can I customize visually? A full set of features: background and card colors, primary/accent color, font (including custom web fonts), border radius, a background image, plus dedicated colors for "correct prediction" and "wrong prediction" states. These match your reward program's branding rather than a fixed theme.
Which views can end users switch between? Up to three, each independently enabled/disabled per game: Now (a rolling window of the next few open matches plus the most recent results), By competition/group (the full match list grouped by competition or group stage), and By date (a chronological list). You also control the default view and, for the Now view, how many upcoming matches and how many recent results are shown (1 to 10 each).
What languages are supported? The end-user widget ships with 8 languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Greek). The game will inherit the language of the reward program and no translation is required in the game itself. Contact support if you need additional languages.
Match data
Where do fixtures and results come from? An external football data feed, synced automatically — nobody needs to enter fixtures or results manually.
How often is the data refreshed? It depends on the competition's state: daily while a season hasn't started yet, roughly hourly once it's live, and every 5 minutes right around when matches are wrapping up, so final scores land quickly after full time.
What happens if a match is postponed?
- Postponed: any predictions already made are kept. The match temporarily drops out of the "Now" window until it's rescheduled, then reopens for predictions at its new kickoff time.
How far in advance can users see matches? The full season's fixture list is synced up front and always browsable (via the "By competition" and "By date" views). What's actually surfaced in the "Now" view is limited to the number of upcoming matches you configured (1–10).
Playing the game
What does a user actually predict? A final score for both teams — two numbers, from 0 up to 99. There's no separate "just pick the winner" option; the exact score is always the input, and the winner/draw outcome is derived from it.
Until when can a user submit or change a prediction? Right up to kickoff. There's no extra buffer (like "locks 15 minutes before kickoff") — once the match starts, the prediction locks automatically.
Can a user edit or remove a prediction before kickoff? Yes to both — predictions can be changed as many times as they like, or cleared entirely, until the match starts.
What happens if a user doesn't submit a prediction for a match? Nothing gets sent to the reward program for that match — it's not scored as "wrong," it's simply skipped. Points for "predicting wrong" only apply when a user actually submits a prediction and it turns out incorrect.
How does Pick your team work for members? On their first visit, members see only the team picker. They choose one club from the clubs you offer and confirm, then see and predict only that club's matches. Their pick is saved to their account, so it follows them on every device.
Can members change team? Only if you allow it: Changes allowed per season sets how many times. The first pick doesn't count. After a change, earlier predictions are kept and still earn points. On a matchday where a member already predicted their previous club's match, the new club's match is read-only, unless it's the same match.
What happens if I remove a club from the list? Members who already picked it keep it and can still predict its matches. New members can no longer choose it.
Scoring and rewards
How are predictions scored? Every finished match resolves to one of three outcomes per user:
- Exact score — both team scores were predicted correctly.
- Correct winner — the predicted winner (or draw) was right, but not the exact score.
- Incorrect — neither the score nor the winner was predicted correctly.
How many points does each outcome earn? That's configured in the reward program itself, not in the Prediction Game setup. The game only tells the reward program which of the three outcomes happened for each match a user predicted — the reward program's own points/rules engine decides how many points (if any) that's worth.
How do results actually reach the reward program? Once a match is finished, the game sends one event per user prediction to the reward program, tagged with the outcome (exact score / correct winner / incorrect) and identifying the match, competition, and the game instance.
Do I need a reward program to use the Prediction Game? Yes — it's exclusively a reward-program feature. It can't be added to a campaign or microsite outside of a reward program, and every user action requires reward-program authentication.
