The prediction game: complete setup guide

The prediction game lets your loyalty members predict the scores of real football matches, directly on your portal, and earn points for their predictions. You can now create, style and publish a prediction game yourself, from start to finish. This guide walks you through every step.

What is the prediction game?

The prediction game is a game format for your Loyalty portals. You choose a club or a league, and Qualifio builds the full list of matches (fixtures) for you. Your members then predict the score of each upcoming match.

  • Fixtures and results are retrieved automatically. You don't need to enter matches or scores yourself.
  • It works across competitions. A club's game can cover its national league and its cups in a single game.
  • Members come back every week. The Now view shows the next matches to predict and the latest results side by side.
  • Predictions can earn points. Once a match has been played, each prediction is marked as Correct score, Correct winner or Incorrect, and your earning rules turn this into points.

What do I need before I start?

  • A Loyalty licence. The prediction game is only offered to accounts with a Loyalty licence.
  • A loyalty program with a portal, where you'll place the game.
  • The club or league you want the game to follow, and the competitions you want to include.

Step 1: Create your game

Prediction games are created in the Games module, the home of all your custom games.

  1. Click the Games icon in the left icon rail of Qualifio. It sits alongside the Engage and Loyalty modules.
  2. Click Create a new game.

  3. In the Choose a format window, select the prediction game.

  4. The game editor opens.

The games list shows a Preview, the Name, an Available in column and the Type of each game, plus a search bar. The Available in badge tells you where each game can be used:

Badge Meaning Example
Crown + Portals The game can be used in your Loyalty portals Prediction game
Megaphone + Campaigns The game can be used in your Engage campaigns Maze muncher

The same badge appears as a badge icon in the corner of each tile in Choose a format.

Step 2: Choose the matches

Start by telling the game which matches to follow.

  1. Game mode: choose how the game is built.
  2. Country: filter the list of clubs and leagues by country.
  3. Season: select the season the game covers.
  4. Club (By club mode only): search for your club and select it.
  5. Competitions: tick the competitions to include.
Game mode What the game follows Typical use
By club All the matches of one club, across the competitions you tick (for example its national league and a domestic cup) A club engaging its fans
By league The matches of a whole league A media or brand covering a full championship

Example by club: to build a game for Monaco, choose By club, select France and the current season, search for Monaco, then tick Ligue and Coupe de France. The game now contains every Monaco match in both competitions.

Example by league: to build a game for Ligue 1, choose By League, select France and the current season, search for Ligue 1. The game now contains every Ligue 1 match.

Step 3: Choose what your members see

In the display settings, you decide how the game is presented to your members:

  • Upcoming matches: how many upcoming matches the Now view shows.
  • Recent results: how many recent results the Now view shows.
  • Enabled views: which views your members can access.
  • Default view: the view your members see first when they open the game.

Step 4: Check the preview

The editor preview shows the real matches for your configuration: the club, competitions and season you selected, with the real competition names (and logos or short codes where available). These are exactly the matches your members will see.

  • The preview updates as you change your settings, without saving. If you add a competition or change the number of upcoming matches, it follows straight away.
  • If your configuration doesn't return any matches yet (no competition selected, or fixtures not yet available), the preview says so explicitly.
  • The preview is read-only: you can check the layout and the matches, but you can't submit predictions from it.

Step 5: Customise the look of your game

The styling panel has five sections, one for each component your members see on screen. Each section shows its most common options first. The other options are behind a Show advanced settings.

Section Shown by default Under "Show more options"
Global Background color, Text color Background image
Cards Background color, Border color, Text color Title color, Separator color, Date color, Country name text color
Navigation Background color, Text color Navigation – active step color, Progress indicator color, Navigation icon color
Scores Background color and Text color, per state n/a: use the state selector
Buttons Background color, Text color Button background (pressed), Button background (hover, desktop only), Button icon color

How does the Scores section work?

Scores change colour depending on the outcome of a prediction. The Scores section has a state selector: Default, Correct, Incorrect and Not submitted (the member didn't predict that match). Select a state to set its Background color and Text color. Default is selected when you open the section.

What's the difference between "pressed" and "hover"?

  • Button background (pressed) is the colour of a button while a member is pressing it, on any device.
  • Button background (hover, desktop only) is the colour of a button when a mouse is over it. There's no hover on mobile.

Do my style changes affect other parts of the game?

No. Each field controls only the element it's named after, so you can combine light and dark areas freely:

Set Global → Background color to white and Global → Text color to black, then Cards → Background color to dark blue and Cards → Text color to white. Text inside the cards stays white on dark blue, and text outside the cards stays black on white. Both are readable.

Collapsing a section's extra options only hides the fields. The values you set there still apply to your game.

Step 6: Add the game to your portal

Once your game is saved, place it on a page of your portal.

  1. Open your portal in the Editor and go to the page where the game should appear.
  2. Add an Advanced format component to the page.
  3. In the component settings, set Game name to Prediction game.
  4. Open the game search dropdown, type the name of your game and select it. The component shows a preview of your game straight away.

  5. Under Open the game…, choose how members access it:
    • inside the widget (iframe): the game is displayed directly on the page.
    • in a new tab: the page shows a card that opens the game in a new tab. Choose a Card template, then fill in the Title, Image URL, Description and Button label of the card.

  6. Save and publish your portal.

Only prediction games from your own account are listed in the dropdown.

Step 7: Reward predictions with points

To give points for predictions, create one earning rule per outcome you want to reward in your program.

  1. Go to Earning rules and click Create rule.
  2. Enter a name for the rule (only visible in the back office).
  3. In the Trigger section, set the Source to Advanced format and the Action to Prediction.
  4. In the eligibility criteria, add Result and choose the outcome to reward: Correct score, Correct winner or Incorrect.
  5. Set the number of points and save the rule.

Each prediction gets exactly one result. A prediction with the exact score is marked Correct score, not Correct winner as well. To reward both outcomes, create one rule for each:

Rule 1: Source Advanced format, Action Prediction, Result = Correct score → 30 points. Rule 2: same trigger, Result = Correct winner → 10 points. A member who predicts 2–1 for a match that ends 2–1 gets 30 points. A member who predicts 1–0 for the same match gets 10 points.

You can also use the Match Id and League Id criteria to reward specific matches or competitions differently, for example double points for a derby. You can use every other earning-rule option as usual, such as limits per member and descriptions.

Important: points are only awarded for a game that is placed on a portal of the same program (Step 6).

Troubleshooting

Why don't I see the prediction game in "Choose a format"?

The prediction game requires a Loyalty licence. If you think your account should have access, contact our Support team.

Why doesn't my game appear in the game search dropdown?

Check that you saved the game in the Games module, and that you're searching from the same Qualifio account. Games from other accounts are never listed.

Why is my preview empty?

Make sure you selected at least one competition. If you did, the fixtures may not be available yet. They'll appear in the preview as soon as they are.

Why aren't my members receiving points?

Check that:

  • an earning rule exists with Source Advanced format and Action Prediction, and its Result criterion matches the outcome you expect;
  • the game is placed on a portal that belongs to the same program as the earning rule;
  • the match has been played. Predictions only get a result once the final score is known.

Why doesn't my hover colour change anything on my phone?

Button background (hover, desktop only) only applies when a mouse hovers over a button. On mobile, use Button background (pressed).

I changed a colour but the element I expected didn't change. Why?

Each field controls only its own component. For example, Global → Text color doesn't affect text inside cards. Check the section of the component you want to change, and click Show advanced options if you don't see the field.

Qualifio already set up a prediction game for me. Do I need to do anything?

No. Games set up by Qualifio keep working on your portal as they are. You can link the component to another game at any time with the game search dropdown.
