How can I create a quiz to be integrated in my article?

If you work in the editorial team of a media group, one of your objectives is probably to retain readers and encourage them to explore your website so as to increase the number of page views. As a journalist, how can you engage your audience? In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to create an editorial campaign (i.e. a quiz) in order to create interaction with your digital readers.

1. Choose your campaign type

Qualifio offers a wide range of interactive formats. When logged in to Qualifio, you can access the wizard by clicking on "Add a new campaign" and choosing the kind of interaction you wish to create.

In this example, we will create a classic, anonymous quiz.

Once you have chosen your campaign type, you will need to set it up correctly. The campaign creation in Qualifio is divided into multiple steps, depending on which format you opted for (in this case, there are 7).

2. "Channels" step

In this first step, we are going to set up 5 important elements:

  • Campaign title
  • Website on which it will be published
  • Start and end date of the campaign
  • URL of the webpage in which your campaign will be integrated (which can be added later on). This one's important for Facebook shares.
  • Optionally, a Facebook Page or X account to Like or follow (read more: How to generate new fans with a Soft Gate)

Don't forget to save your settings at the end of this first step!

3. "Welcome" step

The "Welcome" screen is the first screen the participant will seen when they participate. In this screen, you can insert a message to encourage them to participate, as in this example. You can define the text alignment and level (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.)

This welcome screen is not mandatory. If you wish that participants directly see the first question of your quiz, for instance, you can simply skip this step.

4. "Questions" step

When you click on "Create a new questionnaire", you can directly create your first question. Here you can define the questions and answers proposed to the participants. (In a quiz, don't forget to indicate the correct answer. This will allow calculating the score of each participant.) You can add as many questions as you want.

There are a lot of different question types: radio buttons, checkboxes, memo zones, dropdown menus, etc. However, for editorial campaigns, the most popular options are radio buttons, answer in a button, and clicking on an image (as seen below).

Once you created your questions, you can also configure additional features:

  • Add an introduction text;
  • Define the order of the questions (ordered or random);
  • Time limit;
  • Display all questions on one page;
  • Display progress of the score;
  • Display the correct answer when the participant goes to the next question;
  • Etc.

5. "Exit" step

The exit screen (or end screen) will be the last screen the participant will see once the quiz is over. This can be a thank you note, a message to encourage them to come back and try again some other time, or a recap of all correct answers. It is also the opportunity to guide the reader and bring them where you want them: your social media, another article, a subscription to your newsletter... You can also insert dynamic variables (which allow, for example, to display the score of the participant).

 6. "Settings" step

This step will allow setting a participation limitation. Do you want your audience to be able to participate an unlimited number of times? Do you want them to only participate once? Should they wait until the next day to play again? (Read more: How individual and collective limitations work).

7. "Virality" step

As a web journalist, you probably want to reach the largest audience possible. You can thus activate the social sharing of your quiz (and so, the social sharing of the article in which the quiz has been integrated). Very easy to set up, you can follow the instructions here:

En tant que journaliste web, vous souhaitez probablement toucher un maximum de personnes. Vous pouvez donc activer le partage de votre quiz (et donc de l'article qu'accueille le quiz) sur les réseaux sociaux. Simple à mettre en place, suivez ces instructions : How to use the Virality step

8. "Look and feel" step

By default, all campaigns published on your website can have the same look and feel as your website (if it's not the case, you can contact your Customer Success Manager). To customize it, you can click on "Change look and feel". There you can:

  • Adapt the size of your iframe;
  • Add a background image and/or banner;
  • Edit the game zone;
  • Change fonts;
  • Modify the format and colour of your buttons;
  • Etc.

WARNING: If you are using templates, for each change in the look and feel, you should click on "Save and quit". If you click on "Save the template", changes will apply to all other campaigns using the same template!

9. Preview of the campaign

At any time, you can preview your campaign by clicking on the ad hoc button (upper right corner, at any step of the campaign). A new tab will automatically open with your campaign, so you can see how it will display to your participants.

10. I'm done editing my campaign. How can I insert it in my article?

You can easily get the JavaScript or HTML integration code to integrate in your CMS. In order to do that, go back to the "Channels" step and simply copy/paste the code you need:
